Hotwire.com is a no-frills cheap flight booking service that once-upon-a-time was all you needed because it was all you got. Now they're just at the bottom of our list a classic flop.

Why take a stab in the dark and buy before you even see which airline or hotel you're getting when flight prices really aren't that much different from other online travel sites

The way Hotwire.com works is that they show you the price without the brand (hotel, airline, etc.,) until after you book this makes their navigation pretty much one big stab in the dark. Considering their deals aren't better than the competitions that don't hide the brands, it seems just kitschy.

Where in the world can I go? We grade the airlines on the number and range of destinations bookable online; are they global enough for us?.

You can choose from many different destinations but you can't choose what airline you want! What good is a cheap flight on an airline that might be renown for its terrible service Plus, they don't even offer service to/from all international airports.

Are you saving money? Booking direct with the airline should save you money, but we compare to other airlines running the same route, and the bookers to find out if this site holds true to that..

The value for money question here is subjective but in our opinion, if you don't know what you're getting, the potential aggravation and frustration is just not worth the savings here as they don't have cheaper cheap flights than other sites that offer you the entire picture.

Can I check-in online? Does the website give you the chance or have links to check-in online, and more importantly, how easy is the process?.
Hotwire.com doesn't offer online check-in as it is a site that connects you to the airline (an unknown airline at that).

What kind of deals do these sites offer? Are there last minute specials to be had, and what about a winter clearance? We evaluate the frequency and decency of their deals..
They only seem to offer special flight deals within the USA. Thumbs down for a site that offers international destinations....
