A good attempt but you can find better

If it weren t for the confusing site design and outsourced booking service, Hostels Central would be a fine resource, but sadly, there are just better options available to book a room.

HostelsCentral.com has 5 different categories:
Hostels Booking, Hostels Information, Backpacker Magazine, Festival News, and Fun Stuff. However, the majority of the content on the site is squished into a small frame on the left side of the page, making browsing difficult and time-consuming. (Thumbs down.)

Making a booking online How easy is it to make a booking online or to amend an existing booking. How flexible are the search options? .

This website uses the familiar calendar style hotel/house listings and booking a room is as simple as entering the dates requested into the calendar. On the flip side, many of the listings seem drawn from a central database which wasn t as up to date as we would have expected for our trip.

Help in finding what you want With so many hotels to choose from, how does the site help you pick what is right for you? Are there any site favorites or recommendations?.

The content on the site is rich with original and interesting articles on vacationing. However, it still seems rather clich and when looking for overall travel planning inspiration we were unimpressed.

The range of accommodation on offer Does this site cater for everyone, from 2 star to 5, what different types of accommodation can you find and is there plenty to choose from?.

This site listings are culled from a massive online database, so there are hundreds if not thousands of hotels and bookings available some more reasonable than others. All in all, not a bad range but since the site is just hostels, we can't expect too large of a range.

Quality and impartiality of reviews How accurate is their hotel information and are there links to user reviews so that you can get the real picture? .

This site review architecture is pretty primitive and left us without a clear picture of the different hostels offered. We felt that this section could have been a whole lot juicier.

Can you see what you are booking? Are there enough images of the place, are they decent enough quality and are there maps to see exactly where you are booking into. .

Small thumbnails don t really give a good look at the listings and there was no option to enlarge. We felt that overall a bigger selection of larger photos would have been more helpful before we thought to book a room.
